Community Development
Established in 1984, The Heart of Camden,
Inc. has provided homeownership opportunities to over 170
families. In
addition, the Hynes Family Resource Center was constructed
with volunteer labor. The Heart of Camden also transformed
other vacant buildings including Joe's Place which provides
meals for the homeless, Clothes from the Heart, a children's
second hand clothing store on Broadway, and the Heart of
Camden business offices on Ferry Avenue. |

NRTC
The Heart of Camden is focused on executing its ambitious Waterfront South Neighborhood Revitalization Plan (NRP). The NRP is 10 years of Broadway Corridor ("main street"), Housing, and Environment projects that will significantly improve the neighborhood. The NRP is a State of New Jersey program where qualified, reputable Community Development Corporations can receive funds from New Jersey corporations toward specifically identified projects. The corporations can received a state tax credit of 100% for contributing to the fund. For more information on the State program, Click Here.

Community Playhouse [link]
400-404 Jasper Street
Site of a former bar, is being transformed
into a Community Theatre.
It will be the new home of The
South Camden Theatre Company.
If all goes well, construction is expected to
be complete sometime in 2010.

South Camden Shipbuilding
Museum
On September 29, 2006,
The Heart of Camden acquired the Church of Our Savior at
Broadway and Viola Streets. The Church is a significant contributing
structure to the South Camden Historic District. It was designed
by George Hewitt and constructed in 1881.
The Church will be transformed into the South Camden Shipbuilding
Museum.
